Today the husband and I went for a dating ultrasound because we weren't entirely sure of conception dates. Although, I was fairly sure, the doctor wanted one done anyway. So when I called the clinic to make the appointment I was explicitly told to show up with a full bladder.
Let me tell you...a full bladder + a tired pregnant woman + a stressed out husband (mainly from the tired and cranky pregnant woman) makes for a less than awesome time. The ultrasound technician loaded me up with the gel and pressed down on my bladder. On my full bladder. I could have peed on the table. As I was mentally repeating words to myself that had nothing to do with water, waterfalls, tinkle, pee or toilets...my heart skipped a beat when she said she didn't think she could see anything.
After more pushing and prodding on my ovaries and bladder a tiny little blob appeared on the screen. And it looked like it was vibrating. Soon-to-be-fetus in one week (a blueberry sized embryo right now) was found and so was a very strong heartbeat!
Success! Due date: December 29, 2011!
Less of a success: overcome with nausea the second we exited the clinic and hurling in the parking lot. Repeatedly.
It was a gross and awesome morning.
Although the nausea has remained for most of the day. But...it's a small price to pay for knowing that so far - all is good in babyland.
