Lately it seems as if all I've done is see doctors! Who knew pregnancy made a girl so busy. This weekend we had some concerns about some persistent cramping that just wouldn't go away. It had been about four days, so finally at about 11pm Saturday night, the husband and I made our way to the Emergency Room at our local hospital (which interestingly enough I work at....as a side note, me working there did not move anything along faster!)
Four hours Saturday night/early Sunday morning and coming back early Sunday afternoon for more tests and of course more waiting gave us some answers to why I've been cramping so much, but didn't quash the worry. There seems to be some internal bleeding (the ER doctor used the word hemorrhaging....*shudder....bleeding is so much better).....it's outside the gestational sac where the baby is (so that's good news) and really each case is different. In some cases a perfectly healthy baby is born, is some cases you can miscarry....luckily in more cases everything is fine. It's the less than average case that has me worried.
But we got to see the little guy fluttering around on an ultrasound screen which was pretty neat. It's super tiny, but you can see a head and arms.....and the ultrasound technician puts us as 9 weeks 5 days (9 wks, 6 days today!) so we're a few days further along than we thought...but not by much.
So we're staying positive and hoping that we aren't in the minority when it comes to this type of thing....although this type of bleeding only happens in 1% of all pregnancies, so already we're in the minority.....fingers crossed for us! Happy thoughts.
Off to make dinner as thanks to this pregnancy I haven't kept anything down today....let's hope some veggies and pasta stay down! Oh joy!
